The Great Fire of London

A virtual visit by The London Metropolitan Archives

In 1666 a fire ravaged its way through the streets of London. But what really happened? And how we can we sort fact from fiction and teach the topic accurately? The London Metropolitan Archives have a brilliant virtual session on offer which does just that.

Using original documents the virtual visit involves drama, eyewitness accounts and creative activities to show pupils what Londoners experienced during the fateful fire. They will see how it utterly destroyed the city, devastating everything in its path. Later, you'll hear of the arduous task that followed: rebuilding London from the bottom up.

By exploring primary sources from the time of the fire, pupils will develop essential enquiry skills and experience for themselves what life as a archiver involves.

This FREE virtual session can be booked here.
